The Brandon Bean Tournament is the premiere pre-season high school soccer tournament for both boys and girls in southern Arizona. It is named in memory of Brandon Bean, who was an outstanding goalkeeper at Salpointe Catholic High School in Tucson.Brandon was an exceptional young man, a dedicated athlete, and a friend to all. Brandon died of a brain hemorrhage after a collision at a soccer scrimmage on November 7, 1992. Along with his parents and family, Salpointe suffered a real loss. In his memory, the Brandon Bean award goes to the tournament's outstanding goalkeeper.Tragically, another exceptional soccer player, Laura Kea, died in an auto accident on her way to a soccer tournament in Phoenix on February 19, 1995. She was remembered as "a confident, carefree person who did her best to make every moment better than the last." In her memory, an award is given to the tournament's outstanding field player.These players are nominated by the coaches from each of the participating schools, and the awards are presented at the end of the tournament. |
